Transportation (closed)
As part of the Supply Chain Regulatory Review, we are seeking your input on regulatory challenges related to the transportation industry.
Context
A well-functioning transportation system is critical to securing supply chains, enabling global trade, and forms the backbone of nearly all sectors of the economy. In the last three years, global supply chains have been hit with a number of concurrent shocks to the system: the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and severe weather events exacerbated by our changing climate. This has led to bottlenecks and congestion and has exposed long-standing structural issues in how national transportation and logistics systems are managed. We have seen how these disruptions in our transportation system touch every aspect of our economy, resulting in supply shortages, higher priced goods, and a rising cost of living.
Enhancing Canada’s transportation infrastructure is critical to establishing an effective and resilient transportation supply chain. Equally important is having a competitive, predictable and modern regulatory regime in place that enables government, transportation and logistics providers, shippers, producers, manufacturers and retailers to effectively work together to create a transportation and logistics supply chain system that is fluid, efficient and resilient.
